Exhibit reception
PARIS – The Painted Mermaid Gallery, 6 Briggs Ave., South Paris, will hold a reception for the “Exploring the Human Figure” exhibit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in conjunction with other local exhibits participating in the “First Friday” artwalk, including McLaughlin Gardens, Norway Memorial Library and Fare Share Commons.
Church speaker
HEBRON – Amanda Robinson, a 2006 graduate of Hebron Academy, will describe her experiences in Malawi at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Hebron Community Baptist Church.
Earlier this summer she spent three weeks working at the Littlefield Orphanage, then traveled about the small African nation. All are invited.
The following Sunday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. the church will celebrate “Sunday in the Neighborhood.”
A cake will be served to commemorate the 215th anniversary of the church, which held its first service on Aug. 23, 1791. For details, call Pastor Meredith Dalessandro at 966-2694.
Community supper
OXFORD – A community supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Oxford Congregational Church, King Street. Menu will include turkey, ham, baked beans, casseroles, salads, homemade pies, coffee, tea and cold drinks. Cost for adults is $6; children ages 6 to 12, $3; under 5, free.
Fundraiser set
OXFORD – A summerfest fundraiser to benefit United Way of Oxford County will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Hannaford. There will be a yard sale, race cars with pictures being taken with driver for $1, two wheels to spin, a lunch special and a guessing game with a $50 prize.
Nature club trip
OXFORD – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, south side near Route 26, and car pool to Bird Brook and Hacker Hill in Casco and a Songo Queen ride on Long Lake. For information, call John Crumpton at 539-2902.
Church supper
WATERFORD – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at North Waterford Congregational Church, Five Kezars Road. Menu will include baked beans, chop suey, casseroles, salads, brown bread, rolls, beverages and homemade pies. Cost for adults is $7 and children under 12, $3.50.
Ducks to race
OXFORD – The second annual duck race and barbecue will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Station House Community Center, which is the old fire station. The barbecue will be held from noon to 2 p.m. and the duck race will be at 2 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Oxford Recreation Dept. Tickets are on sale at the town office. For more information, call 539-4563. Cost for tickets are $10 duck race or $15 for race and barbecue.
Reunion slated
STONEHAM – The McAlister-McAllister reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, at the fire barn. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a short business meeting. All allied families such as Grovers, McKeens, Barkers and Stearns who have ties are invited.
Those attending should bring a bag lunch, with beverages and dessert being furnished by the group. A photo copy machine will be available, so bring memorabilia. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. The group would like attendees to bring something for the auction.
Bridge play
NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Bridge Club met July 28 at the Fare Share Common, Main Street, where a six-table Howell movement was played.
Finishing first in Flight A and B were Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; second in A, Eric Sahlberg and Larry Holmes; third, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer, who were also second in B. Third in B were Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens.
First in Flight C were Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens; second, Bev Pelletier and Bev Dolan.
Another game will be played Friday, Aug. 4, and all bridge players are welcome. A partner is guaranteed, and parking is in the rear. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153.
