ORONO – Gina Legge scored an unassisted goal 6:19 into overtime to lead Maine to a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart in the field hockey season opener for both teams Saturday.

The Black Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead 6:22 into the game when Erin Reusch converted a pass from Katie Flaherty for her first collegiate goal.

The Pioneers (0-1) knotted up the game 12 minutes later when junior Jenn Howley fed Danielle Vasely.

Legge ended the game for Maine on a great individual effort. She brought the ball down field, beating several Pioneer defenders and goalie Ashley Del Greco to score in front of the cage for the game-winner.
