Holes-in-one are becoming more frequent on area golf courses.
Auburn’s Martindale Country Club yielded an ace on Saturday, August 26 to Cookie Dean, a club member. She aced the #11, 105-yard hole, using a 7-iron. Playing partners were Nina Bartlett and Charly Dion.
Two more aces were recorded Wednesday at Summit Golf Course at Poland. Bob Pomerleau of Poland notched his third hole-in-one at Summit, hitting a 9-iron on the #13, 126-yard hole. That same night, Dan Klucknick of Mechanic Falls scored an ace on the #6, 196-yard hole, utililzing a 6-iron. Recently, Cacy Cantwell also collected a hole-in-one at Summit.

POLAND – Sunday’s Shootout: 1. Bill Strout; 2. Troy Plummer. Luvon Nash became the first woman to qualify and she lasted 12 holes against the men.

AUBURN – Club Championship: Steve Berry defeated Paul Pelletier 3 and 1 in a 36-hole men’s match. It was his second club championship. On the women’s side, Neila Nelkie beat Sandi Piper 2 and 1 in an 18-hole match. It was her fourth consecutive title.
