Summer tour
CARTHAGE – The third summer tour, sponsored by the Carthage Historical Society, will leave from the old schoolhouse museum at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Local historic sites and homes will be visited.
The tour will return to the museum to view early photos and scrapbooks. Those participating are asked to bring a sandwich and beverage, and dessert will be provided. All are welcome.
Society supper
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 11, at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Academy Street. There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program at 7.
The speaker will be Richard Gould on the history of Farmington High School state champion athletic teams. Guests and new members are welcome.
Monday speaker
FARMINGTON – The Monday Club will meet Monday, Sept. 11, for a noon luncheon at the Granery Restaurant. The speaker will be Ken Brechner of Devaney, Doak and Garrett book store on Broadway. His topic will be “An Inside Look at the Fall Literary Scene.”
The luncheon and meeting will be held upstairs in the private dining room.
The price of the luncheon is $11. Hostesses will be Elizabeth Reed and Marilyn Woodman.
Meditation time
FARMINGTON – Beginning at noon Wednesday, Sept. 13, and continuing every Wednesday, the public is invited to sit in the gazebo of Meetinghouse Park for a half-hour of silent meditation.
The focus of the meditation is cultivating personal peace and extending that into the world.
There is no religious, political or other affiliation associated with the meditation gathering, and everyone is welcome.
No previous meditation experience is necessary, and anyone wishing to sit quietly with others, offering prayers and good wishes for a peaceful world is encouraged to take part. To respect others who may be present in the park, there will be no props, incense or other materials used.
Harvest supper
RANGELEY – A harvest supper, sponsored by the Catholic Women’s Club, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Episcopal Undercroft.
The menu will include a full-course turkey dinner with all the trimmings, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit the St. Luke Catholic Church winter emergency fund.
