JAY – The town manager wants to know what people think about the way Jay is run.
She’s gathering information on municipal services and their cost and intends to conduct a poll to see what residents want and what they don’t want before budgeting starts for next year.
“We want to do an opinion poll,” Marden said, but added that she and selectmen haven’t decided on how they’ll conduct it yet.
One idea is to do it at the polls in November and another is to do a mailing.
“We would like to give the public maximum input for the way they would like the budget to be created,” Marden said.
There will be some number crunching done in the process.
“What I would like to see is to have a question for each department so people would know the impact of any cuts we make,” she said.
If people can see the impact of cutting a service, they’re going to be able to decide whether it is worth having a service, ending it or reducing the service, she said.
“So I’ll be working to do that,” Marden said.
She will be approaching the school department about doing the same type of poll with its services.
