NEW YORK (AP) – Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves in posting his second straight preseason shutout, and Adam Hall’s late second-period goal was the difference in the New York Rangers’ 1-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night.

Lundqvist has been in just two exhibition games as he prepares for his second NHL season, but hasn’t shown any rust from the light workload.

Boston’s Tim Thomas also went the whole way.

and looked good in making 27 saves. He has been touched for only three goals on 78 shots in three exhibition games.

His only blemish Wednesday was Hall’s second tally of the preseason.

After the Bruins lost the puck inside the New York blue line, Hall and Martin Straka sped the other way up the ice on a 2-on-2 rush.

Hall moved the puck to Straka, who made a hard cut from the right circle and got off a shot in front of Thomas. The rebound kicked out to the edge of the crease where Hall chipped it over the goalie’s pad with a second back-handed whack at 15:31 of the middle period.

What might concern Rangers coach Tom Renney is his club’s inability to cash in on numerous power-play chances. The man-advantage units were 0-for-7 and have failed on all 36 preseason opportunities. Boston was 0-for-4 – including one that spanned the final 1:47 when Lundqvist stood tall – and is 7-for-35 overall.

Even the officials are trying to sharpen their skills. Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg was whistled for delay of game midway through the third period, but the infraction was rescinded during a TV timeout.

Boston (4-2) put out its regular lineup, including forwards Patrice Bergeron and Glen Murray and new defenseman Zdeno Chara, in a half-empty Madison Square Garden. Brendan Shanahan, New York’s biggest offseason acquisition, took the night off to nurse a minor groin injury.

The Rangers and Bruins will meet again Saturday in Boston, concluding their exhibition schedules before the regular season begins next week.
