Freshman Night

LISBON FALLS – Lisbon High School will host Freshman Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the high school library.

Freshman Night provides parents and students an opportunity to learn about academic planning, including the importance of building a four-year plan that is tailored to student interests and career goals. In addition, the program will review strategies and techniques to improve academic skills and communication between parent, school and child to assist in high school and post-secondary success.

The guidance office encourages participation from parents and students in the program.

Legion events

AUBURN – Alden Gayton Post 31, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the post home, 426 Washington St. Members will discuss plans for Veterans Day and make winter arrangements.

Members are asked to attend and military members are welcome. Post doors open at 6 p.m. For more information, call Bob at 783-2340.

Grange meeting

MINOT – The Minot Center Grange 266 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the grange hall on top of Center Minot Hill. All attending are asked to bring a snapshot for the photo contest. One picture may be entered in each category. The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:30. Plans will be finalized for the hunter’s breakfast from 5 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Dog classes

AUBURN – The Great Falls Dog Obedience Club will start another six-week dog obedience class Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Auburn. Beginners will meet at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Dogs must be at least 3 1/2 months old. To register or for more information, call club trainer Diane Harrington at 784-7578.

DAR speaker

LEWISTON – Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will have as speaker Joann McKee at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Marco’s Restaurant, 12 Mollison Way.

Mrs. McKee and her husband are the driving force behind medical clinics for Native American Indians and she will speak about their work. The lunch buffet is $11. All prospective members are welcome. Call Bev Robbins at 577-0706 for more information.

Taize service

LEWISTON – Trinity Episcopal Church welcomes all to a monthly Taizé service at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Following in the footsteps of the Taizé community, Trinity holds the services in the spirit of ecumenism, reconciliation and peacemaking, providing a place for meditative worship.

Dance classes

LEWISTON – Irish set dance classes held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at St. Patrick’s Hall, corner Blake and Walnut streets. For more information, call 933-9761.

Teddy bear fair

LEWISTON – Mu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education, is sponsoring the Delta Kappa Gamma Teddy Bear Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Lewiston High School cafeteria.

Tables will include baked goods, books, holiday crafts, harvest items, raffles, crafts, Saturday Night Special (beans), snack bar, teddy bears and a white elephant sale. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for local high school students.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 2 were: first, Susan Kaluzynski and Linda Leotsakos, first in B; second, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; third, Charles Bartlett and Roger Briggs, second in B; fourth, Lucille Bilodeau and Luke Merry; fifth, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements, third in B; first in C, Betty and Doug Sise, fourth in B; second in C, Eleanor and George Wigton.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information. There will be no game on Oct. 9, Columbus Day.
