LEWISTON – New Beginnings will hold its annual 5K Race/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 15. The race, which attracted more than 100 runners and walkers last year, will begin and end at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. The race/walk is set to begin at 9 a.m. with registration starting at 7:30 a.m.

“The course is a moderately flat 3.1-mile run/walk through downtown Lewiston,” said race organizer and New Beginnings board member Don Hebert. The entry fee is $15 for adults. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants.

Refreshments will include bagels and fruit after the race. Local merchants have donated prizes, and awards will be given to the top male and female runners in six age divisions.

A new feature this year will be a Diaper Run/Tot Trot, four short races for ages 1 to 4 starting at 9:45 a.m. The entry fee of $5 includes face painting, prizes and mini pumpkins for the first 50 children registered.

All proceeds will go to New Beginnings a nonprofit organization established in 1980, which assists runaway and homeless youth and their families. The agency provides emergency shelter, transitional living and street outreach services in Lewiston, Augusta and Franklin County.
