LEWISTON – Kora Shriners recently held the annual Ladies Night, open to Shriners and guests. Approximately 330 attended. A special presentation of “Shrine Hospital Success” was given by Dr. David M. Drvaric, chief of staff, Shriners Hospital Springfield, Mass. One of the success stories was the story of Katie Walker.

Katie went to Shriners Hospital, Los Angeles, as an infant. Born with a heart murmur, one kidney and a missing tibia, she underwent her first surgeries when she was weeks old. When she was a year old, she received her first of many prostheses. Physical therapists at Shriners taught her to walk. Her undauntable spirit led her to take on snow skiing, horseback riding, bowling and competitive golf.

Katie is now in high school and a member of her school’s golf team. Performing since she was 9, she recently recorded her first country music CD and plans a career in the entertainment field.

Katie was escorted to the Kora Shriners Ladies Night by her parents, Nancy and Marlin Walker. While visiting Maine, Katie was able to take her SATs at Edward Little High School.

Donations were given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children on behalf of the Lewiston Chapter of Harley Owners Group and the American Bassmasters Club.
