Toys For Tots

TOPSHAM – The Marine Corps League, Central Maine Detachment, is working with the Marine Reserve Unit from Topsham on Toys For Tots. Several local stores have agreed to place Toys For Tots boxes in their stores, including Super K-Mart, KB Toys, Tot Lot Store and Wal-Mart.

Lodge meeting

AUBURN – Ancient Brother Lodge 178, AF and AM, will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The officers will confer the Entered Apprentice Degree. The meeting will also be the annual inspection with Robert Hiltz district deputy grand master.

A chicken cordon bleu dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. before the meeting. All Masons are welcome.

Christmas play

LISBON FALLS – The Maranatha Messengers, a puppet ministry of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, will present a Christmas play, “The Arch Angel,” at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. All are invited. The church is located at 555 Lisbon St. For more information, call 353-8518.

Seniors meeting

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Hasty Community Center. The board will meet at 10 a.m. Members should bring a bag lunch. Tickets will be on sale for a Christmas dinner at Martindale Country Club on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Bingo will be played after lunch.

The club met on Nov. 14 at Martindale Country Club for a Thanksgiving dinner. Pot of gold winners were Evelyn Sawin, Norma Masse, Shirley Larochelle, Andre Giasson, Bernice Mushlit, Theresa Greenleaf, Elsie Whitney, Caroline Chapman and Madge Gardner. Entertainment after dinner was provided by Four on a Match, a quartet of Sweet Adeline.

Past Masters Night

AUBURN – Tranquil Lodge 29, AF and AM, will hold a Past Masters Night at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. The past masters will work the Master Mason Degree on a candidate. It will be preceded by a 6:30 supper. All Master Masons are welcome.

Pearl Harbor Day

LEWISTON – The 65th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day will be noted Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Bates and Spruce streets. The military memorial service will begin at noon. All veteran organizations, city and state officials and the public are invited.

Book fair

LEWISTON – Child Health Center’s Developmental Therapy Preschool is having a book fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Child Health Center, 24 Falcon Drive. There will also be raffles, a bake sale and refreshments. Proceeds will be used to purchase adaptive equipment and playground equipment, as well as storage containers and to update materials.

Bridge play

NEW GLOUCESTER – New Gloucester Duplicate Bridge Club met Nov. 26 in the Masonic Building, intersection of Routes 100 and 321. A four-table club championship Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; third, Tom Dahlberg and Dave Wallace.

Finishing first in Flight B were Bunny Banks and Sally Johnston; second, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird.

There will another game Sunday, Dec. 3. A partner is guaranteed. All bridge players are welcome. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Nov. 27 were: first, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; second, Helen Little and Alberta Turner; third, Richard Allen and Pete Cummings; fourth, Roger Briggs and Charles Bartlett; fifth, first in C, Sue Kaluzynski and Paul Beegel; second in C, Marlene and Conrad Violette.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for information about all duplicate bridge games.
