Fair canceled

RANGELEY – The Giving Tree of Rangeley has canceled the craft fair that was to have been held on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the American Legion, Main Street.

Breakfast speaker

WILTON – A Wilton Community “Early Bird” Breakfast will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Wilton Congregational Church, Main Street. The guest speaker will be Lorna Nicols from the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. A hot buffet breakfast is offered with free admission. The public is invited.

Country concert

SALEM – A&E Hill Country Music will perform Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Salem Community Building. Starting at 1 p.m, weather permitting, they will provide an afternoon of country bluegrass music. A donation box will be located by the door and refreshments will be on sale. The concert is being sponsored by the Salem Pine Tree Club.

Advent service

FARMINGTON – The season of Advent will begin Sunday, Dec. 3. Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will light the Advent candle of hope. All are invited to join the congregation for worship at 10:30 a.m.

Church speaker

WILTON – Dr. Richard Fredland, visiting professor of African history at the University of Maine at Farmington, will present a talk on the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan in Africa at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Wilton Congregational Church, Main Street.

A civil war in the region has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the displacement of a half million or more.

Fredland is teaching at UMF for the fall semester and is on leave from his faculty position at the University of Indiana at Purdue, where he teaches African history and politics.

There will be slides to accompany the talk. The event is free and open to the public.

Church meeting

KINGFIELD – Western Mountains Baptist Church is meeting in the Kingfield Elementary School gym. Worship begins at 10 a.m. For more information, call Tom DuBois, pastor, at 897-9523.

Grange program

JAY – Mystic Valley Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the home of Dorothy White of Jay. There will be a Christmas program and exchange of gifts. Potluck refreshments will follow.

Society film

JAY – The Jay Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Jay Community Building. Sherry Judd will show a film of the area’s papermaking history recently produced by the Pulp and Paper Museum Committee. A Christmas program and refreshments will follow.

Holiday cantata

JAY – Jay Baptist Church will present a Christmas cantata, “Come, Let Us Worship the King,” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10.
