LEWISTON – A woman who said she was beaten and held against her will at a Lisbon Street apartment Wednesday night escaped from her captor and called for help, police said.
The 28-year-old woman was treated for cuts and other injuries after police went to an apartment at 277 Lisbon St. and arrested a suspect.
Ryan S. Henson, 31, of 17 Green St., was charged with kidnapping, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and assault.
The woman told police that at about 6:10 p.m. Henson assaulted her and then refused to let her leave the building. He also told her he would kill her if she tried to get away, according to police.
Henson and the victim are acquaintances, police said. They declined to say what type of weapon was allegedly used as threats were being made.
Later in the evening, about an hour after the confrontation began, the woman got away from the apartment building and ran outside.
“She ran to a nearby store and got to a phone,” said Lewiston police Sgt. Jeff Parshall.
Moments later, police officer Corey Jacques went to Lisbon Street and spoke with the woman. He and Detective Roland Godbout began to investigate her statements and then went to question Henson, who was arrested at about 9:30 p.m.
He was being booked at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn late Wednesday night. Bail was set at $50,000 cash.
The woman who reported the alleged attack was treated for her injuries but did not require hospitalization, police said.
