DURHAM – A car that was reported stolen from Lewiston Wednesday morning was found abandoned over the embankment of the Androscoggin River off Cedar Pond Road here about 3 hours later, according to Maine State Trooper Keith Frank.

He said there was no visible damage.

Initially, it was reported that the car was in the river and Durham Fire Department was dispatched. However, Trooper Frank said only one front tire was in the water. The investigation was turned over to the Lewiston Police Department.

According to Lewiston police patrol Sgt. Michael Whalen, the 2005 black Nissan Sentra was reported stolen from in front of the 287 Bates St. area at 8 a.m. The vehicle was towed to Greeley’s Garage where it was to be processed, Whalen said.

The name of the vehicle owner was not available.
