LEWISTON – Sophomore guard Jarrid Palmer led the Blue Devils with an impressive 24 points as Lewiston pulled away for a late-quarter 48-43 triumph over Morse in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Palmer recorded nine field goals, including four 3-point baskets for the Blue Devils (2-3).

Nate Cloutier paced the Shipbuilders (0-5) with 13 points, while Dan Plummer recorded 11 points for Morse.

Leavitt 73, Brunswick 51

BRUNSWICK – Cam Angell scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as Leavitt cruised to a 73-51 win over Brunswick in KVAC basketball.

Eric Berry dropped in 10 points in the first quarter to help spark the Hornets to a 52-27 lead at the half. Berry finished the game with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Cam Miller and Travis Odell each scored 10 points to pace the Dragons (1-3).

St. Dom’s 36, NYA 32

NORTH YARMOUTH – Greg Labonte hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining to put the finishing touches on St. Dom’s first victory over NYA in its last eight tries, a 36-32 win over the Panthers in WMC boys’ basketball.

Joe Bonneau and Billy Colasante each had nine points for the Saints (3-2), and Colasante also grabbed 10 rebounds. Austin Fuller added eight points for St. Dom’s, and Labonte finished with five points.

Liam Anderson led NYA (3-3) with nine points.

Freeport 55, Poland 49

FREEPORT – Senior forward Danny Mehler tossed a game-high 19 points to lead Freeport to a 55-49 victory over Poland in boys’ basketball action Friday.

Sophomore forward Jon Klages collected 13 rebounds to go along with 18 points for the Falcons (4-1). Freeport jumped out to a 27-18 lead at intermission.

The Knights (2-3) struggled in offensive rebounds as Freeport outscored them 22-5 in the contest. Joe Douglas recorded 16 points for Poland, while Tyler Merchant posted 13 points on four field goals, including three 3-point baskets. Mimi Knowles added another 12 points in the loss.

Hockey

Lewiston 4, Messalonskee 3

AUBURN – After breaking up a 2-on-1 breakaway with a backcheck, Jordan Bourgoin picked up the loose puck, skated the length of the ice and scored midway through overtime to lead Lewiston to a 4-3 victory over Messalonskee.

The Blue Devils led 3-1, but Messalonskee rallied with a pair of goals during a 5-on-3 power play with roughly seven minutes to play in the game to send it into overtime.

Bourgoin finished with two goals. Casey Poussard and Matt Letourneau also scored for Lewiston. Alex Lafreniere stopped 23 shots in the Lewiston goal.

EL 14, Mt. Ararat 3

AUBURN – Shawn Hird tallied four goals and four assists as Edward Little clobbered Mt. Ararat, 14-3, in hockey action Friday night.

Corey LaRue also collected a hat trick and four assists, and Billy Brewster had two goals and two assists for the Red Eddies (4-2). Kyle Williams potted two goals for the Eagles.

Adam Loudermilk and Greg St. Denis split time in net for EL, combining for 16 saves. Patrick Chambers made 25 saves in net for Mt. Ararat.

The Eddies will meet Lewiston in the Gipper’s final at 8 p.m. tonight at Ingersoll Arena.
