AUBURN – Kaleb Violette scored a game-high 26 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to lead Central Maine Community College to a 80-62 victory over Bethpage, NY-based Briarcliff in men’s basketball action Wednesday.

Dave Labonte lit things up for the Mustangs (9-7) in the second half with 25 points, while Jon Gilson contributed with 21. CMCC held a slim three-point lead at the half, then used a 51-36 run in the second frame to seal the win.

James Lopes paced Briarcliff (7-6) with a 20-point performance.

Women’s basketball

Binghamton 54, Maine 49

VESTAL, N.Y. – The University of Maine couldn’t overcome its 20 percent shooting in the first half Wednesday night, falling to Binghamton, 54-49, in America East women’s basketball.

Maine (8-6, 2-1 conference) heated up to 14-of-22 after intermission but failed to overturn Binghamton’s 22-13 halftime advantage. Bracey Barker led the Black Bears with 13 points. Ashley Underwood dropped in 12.

Laura Sario led the Bearcats (5-10, 1-1) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Laine Kurpniece added 11 points.
