PORTLAND – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension master gardener volunteers program is offering community service outreach to towns and cities in Cumberland County.

Master gardener volunteers will offer assistance to municipalities in accomplishing small and medium horticulture-based beautification projects.

The invitation is being made to every municipality in Cumberland County.

Up to five projects will be selected, based on availability of volunteers and feasibility of the project. Last year the volunteers assisted five towns with completion of their projects, including a design plan for a veteran’s memorial garden and an entrance garden for a town hall.

For more information or an application packet, contact Amy Witt at the Cumberland County Extension Office by phone 1-800-287-1471 or e-mail awitt@umext.maine.edu. Completed applications should be submitted by March 1. The application and other information can also be found at the Cumberland County master gardener Web site, www.umaine.edu/umcecumberland/ccmg.
