Answer: Sun Spots called DirecTV customer service who did not have a listing for channel NECN. They say you may be referring to channel NESN, the New England Sports Network, which can be found on channel 623. The availability of this channel depends on your service package, with the “total choice package” being the minimum package which provides this channel. You can find all the TV listings, with channel names and numbers, on the DirecTV Web site at www.directv.com/DTVAPP/epg/theGuide.jsp. Dear Sun Spots: I would like a Rebekah Lodge address and phone number that I could use to contact them about buying a Rebekah cookbook. It would be nice if it was in the Oxford or Mechanic Falls area. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots contacted Rebekah Lodge Secretary Hazel Diffen who says there is a Rebekah Lodge in Auburn. You may contact the Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94, P.O. Box 591, Auburn, ME 04210. Their secretary is Catherine Hunnewell, and her office number is (207) 946-5458. Their previous lodge building at 50 Elm St., Auburn, has been sold. They are currently meeting at their Grand Lodge Office, Caren Lane, Auburn, across from the Oddfellows and Rebekah Home at 85 Caren Lane. The lodge meets the first and third Monday at 7 p.m.

For those interested, according to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Web site at www.ioof.org/rebekahs.htm: Odd Fellows, recognizing the need for a woman’s touch and her helpfulness in carrying out the principles of Odd Fellowship, brought into being the Rebekah degree, founded upon the principles of faithfulness, hospitality, purity and dedication to the principles of the Order as portrayed by women characters of the Bible. The degree of Rebekah was accepted in 1851 as written by Schuyler Colfax.

Dear Sun Spots: Toys, clothing and pet food decked the halls of the Rural Community Action Ministry in Leeds last month during its annual Holiday gift program. Once again area residents, businesses and churches generously donated their time and resources to help more than 100 residents in RCAM’s 13 town service area.

RCAM would like to thank all those who contributed to the program. If people could see the looks on the parents’ faces when they picked up their children’s gifts, or on the elderly’s when they realized they’d have food for their pets and wild birds, they’d know just how much their generosity means to the community. This project wouldn’t be possible without the support of the many area businesses, schools, churches, civic groups, families and individuals who annually donate the items distributed to those families in need of assistance.
