Audubon show

FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon will host a free show of locally made chocolate, jewelry and other high-end crafts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center.

Seven Maine jewelers from Portland to Augusta, as well as craftspeople from Brunswick and a scarf maker from Freeport, will show and sell their work throughout the day.

Chocolate confections will also be for sale, along with hot cocoa from a new company that imports and distributes fair-trade, organic cocoa powder from the Dominican Republic.

Super Sunday

AUGUSTA – The annual Super Sunday Table Tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Pine Tree State Arboretum, 153 Hospital St.

The event is a fundraiser for the education program, plant collections and trails. During the tour, skiers, snowshoers or hikers will progress along the trail system, arriving at a succession of tables featuring appetizers, wraps, soups, chowders chili, or other dishes, along with coffee, cocoa, and desserts.

Augusta Recreation will host a children’s table with hot dogs and cocoa at the sledding hill, and there will be a remote “wilderness” table featuring freeze dried trail foods and homemade chili.

Winter lectures

AUGUSTA – Old Fort Western’s 20th annual winter lecture series will get under way at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the learning gallery, city hall, 16 Cony St. The series will feature 10 weekly talks and programs on a variety of 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century historical topics.

Talks will include: Feb. 15, “Voyage of the Archangel,” author, David Morey; Feb. 25, “Washington Loved to Dance,” dancing master, R.P. Hale; March 1, “Eminent Mainers,” author, Douglas Stover; March 8, “Little Pine to King Spruce,” author, Fran Pelletier.

Also, March 11, “Maine Made Guns and their Makers,” author, Dwight Demeritt; March 15, “The 1987 Restoration Re-visited,” Jay Adams, Old Fort Western; March 18, “Stone Wall Secrets,” author, Robert Thorson; March 22, “After 1810: Fort Western Ownership and Occupancy,” Patti Violette, Old Fort Western.
