FARMINGTON – Openings are still available for University of Maine at Farmington evening playgroups for infants, toddlers and their caregivers.

The free playgroups are held in Ricker Addition on the UMF campus. A healthy snack is provided in each playgroup. Families with children age 3 and under are welcome, and child care for older children is available free in an adjacent room.

The Tuesday Playgroup, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., offers opportunities for total development, with a special emphasis on children engaging in play and learning activities with other children and adults.

It is facilitated by UMF Associate Professor Mellisa Clawson, an intern in early childhood education, and UMF students majoring in early childhood education. For more information, contact 778-7168 or mellisa.clawson@maine.edu.

The Thursday Playgroup, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., focuses on parent-child interactions and is based on the Parents Interacting with Infants approach, with activities stemming for parent-child interests.

The group is planned to facilitate parents’ observations and understanding of their children’s unique developmental abilities. UMF students facilitate the group under the guidance of UMF Associate Professor Dolores Appl. For more information, contact Appl at 778-7505 or dappl@maine.edu.
