LISBON – A 66-year-old Lewiston woman, Jacqueline Arnold, escaped apparent injury Monday in a single-car crash on Route 9 that caused a Central Maine Power Co. transformer to fall onto her car.

According to the investigating officer, patrolman Richard St. Amant, Arnold was driving north on Route 9 when she ran into snow that had drifted across the road due to the wind. That caused her car to veer across the highway to the left where she struck a mailbox and the utility pole.

The force of the crash dislodged an attached transformer, which then fell on the passenger side of her car causing a rear door window to break. The transformer “was compromised,” officer St. Amant said, and started leaking fluid. No wires were broken and the only power outage was to Morse Mechanics across the street, he said.

Lisbon Falls Fire Department was called to the scene and stood by until CMP cleanup and line crews arrived. Repairs were completed by 2 p.m.

Arnold, who was alone, complained of pain but did not require immediate medical attention. St. Amant estimated damage to her 2003 Toyota Camry at $2,500 in the 11:25 a.m. crash.
