LEWISTON – Deputy Chief Joseph K. Loughlin of the Portland Police Department, co-author of the book “Finding Amy: A True Story of Murder in Maine” will be at Lewiston-Auburn College on Tuesday, March 13, for a presentation and book signing.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place between 6:30 and 8 p.m. in Room 170. There will be a question-and-answer session following the presentation, concluding with a book signing.
The book is a firsthand account of the murder and subsequent investigation of Amy St. Laurent, 25, of South Berwick, who disappeared in October 2001 after an evening with friends in Portland’s Old Port. Her disappearance set off an intense search that captured statewide attention.
Police found St. Laurent’s body in December 2001, in a shallow grave in Scarborough woods. Jeffrey Gorman was arrested and later convicted of the murder. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
The Mystery Writers of America has nominated “Finding Amy” for an Edgar Award, which each year honors the best in mystery fiction, nonfiction, television, film and theater.
Books will be available for purchase. The event is presented by the Golden Key International Honor Society in conjunction with Campus Crusade for Christ and the Student Activities committee. For more information e-mail [email protected] or call 753-6602. The campus is at 51 Westminster St.
