Easter cantata

RUMFORD – An Easter cantata will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the First Baptist Church, which will host the West Paris Community Choir presenting “Majesty.” The program will be followed by light refreshments.

Artist to appear

RUMFORD – The world’s fastest portrait artist will appear at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Mountain Valley High School. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door; proceeds to benefit St. Athanasius St John’s Youth Ministry.

Rob Surette will give a 60-minute performance. He will be celebrating (while creating) portraits of Christ on gigantic canvases as part of a theatrical performance, which artistically celebrates the life of Christ.

Homemakers

PERU – The Extension Homemakers will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Peru School. The subject will be “Alaska,” with guest speakers. Members should bring a dish for a potluck meal.

Recovery program

DIXFIELD – Dr. Neil Nedley has put together an eight-week depression recovery program that will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Multipurpose Room, Weld Street. The program is free. Those interested should call Frankie Brownell at 562-7177.

Brownell, health education coordinator for for local Newstart health programs, will host the Nedley depression recovery program on DVD.

Parenting group

RUMFORD – A parenting education group, Positive Parenting, will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesdays, April 3 to May 15, at the Rumford Public Library. For more information, call Sandra Powers at 364-3721, ext. 6370.

Driving course

MEXICO – A Maine Driving Dynamics course will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 3 and 10, at Region 9 School of Applied Technology, River Road.

Instructor Eddy Naples said those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record, and insurance discounts are possible. Register by calling 369-9058 or 364-3764.

Easter services

RUMFORD – The First Baptist Church has announced its schedule of Easter services. Palm Sunday will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 1. The Lord’s Supper will be commemorated at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5. A “Son” rise service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 8, followed by a breakfast and the Easter Sunday worship at 11 a.m.
