LEWISTON – Maine Event cheerleaders recently competed in Williamsburg, Va., at Eastern Cheerleading Association Nationals and won five national titles and five first-place finishes along with four division championships, grand champions, awarded to the team with the highest score of the weekend, and program champions, awarded to the gym with the top three highest scores of the weekend.

Maine Events senior stunt group took home first place for its top gun stunt performance and Kaitlyn Letourneau took home first place for best cheerleader.

The senior co-ed team was awarded best innovated stunt series. In addition, they were awarded five “world’s best” championships bids, with four of the bids free full-paid bids.

Maine Event has now been awarded 11 bids to this year’s invitation only Final Destination World’s Best Competition in Baltimore on May 5 and 6. Nine of the 11 bids are free full paid bids – awarded for high scores achieved at various all-star competitions this season.

Maine Event was also awarded 53 All American Awards to Cheerleaders from the Youth, Junior Black, Junior Pink, Senior Pink and Senior Co-Ed teams for their outstanding performance during the event.

The cheerleaders have won the title of ECA All-American and can attend the Pro-Bowl in Hawaii and can compete to receive scholarship money for college.

Since its establishment in 2005, Maine Event Cheer has won 23 national championship titles, 78 first-place finishes and Maine’s only “World’s Best” championship title for their performance at the Final Destination World’s Best Championship in Baltimore last season.

Maine Event cheer and dance teams are comprised of athletes from many Maine communities, including Lewiston, Auburn, Poland, Turner, Bath, Brunswick, Falmouth, Freeport, Gorham, Lisbon, Mechanic Falls, Gray, Greene, Sabattus, Wales, Oxford, Norway, Winslow, Minot, Monmouth, Gardiner, Westbrook, Owls Head and Rockland.

The 2007/2008 teams are forming and there will be an informational meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, and open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28. Maine Event teams will perform from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Lewiston High School at its annual Family and Friends Event.
