FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington’s annual “No-Sweat Day” Fashion Show will be held at noon Wednesday, April 4, in the Olsen Student Center, outside the South Dining Hall.
The event is part of the socially-responsible, campus-wide sweatshop awareness day sponsored by the university’s Purchasing Practices Policy Committee in an effort to inform the college and local community about some of the ethical options available when purchasing clothing.
The afternoon will feature a”Sweat-Free” Fashion Show with UMF staff and faculty models, an information display on fair-trade coffee and results of the campus survey asking the question, “Would you be willing to pay an extra 50 cents for a sweatshirt to know for certain that it wasn’t made in a sweatshop?”
There will be a campus-wide effort encouraging everyone to learn what makes clothes “clean” (sweat-shop free) by wearing at least one clean item that day.
