LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center is offering a series of four workshops for people wanting to re-acquire their French language. The sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning April 26, at 46 Cedar St. The cost for the four sessions is $55
Michel Courchesne, French teacher at Lewiston Middle School, is a 22-year veteran of teaching middle school students. Courchesne will lead the introductory series for area Franco-Americans who were brought up speaking French in their homes, but who have lost their skills.
Courchesne will lead participants through activities using a variety of methods. Materials will include songs, stories and excerpts from films, photos and family histories.
Anyone who is uncomfortable speaking French because they have forgotten most of it or anyone who needs to practice with others is welcome.
The center also offers “La Rencontre” social gathering with luncheon and a performance monthly where all attendees are requested to speak French and fined 25 cents every time they lapse into English.
For more information, call John Glaus, cultural affairs director, at 783-1585, or to register mail a check for $55 to Franco-American Heritage Center, PO Box 1627, Lewiston, ME 04241-1627.
