BRIDGTON – The Molly Ockett Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held its annual DAR Good Citizen Tea and Awards Ceremony at the Bridgton Community Center on April 14. This year the chapter also recognized an Eagle Scout for his project.

Regent Barbara MacLean presented a DAR flag certificate to Eagle Scout Nicholas DiConzo in recognition of his project in which he raised the money to purchase an American Flag and 25-foot aluminum flag pole. DiConzo also installed the pole at the Agnes Gray Elementary School in West Paris.

MacLean presented the DAR Good Citizen Award and pin to three of the four students from area high schools. Students recognized and presented with certificates and pins were: Skye Landry, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Caitlin Shimamura, Telstar High School; and Rebecca Even, Fryeburg Academy.

After each student received their award they spoke about other programs and activities that they are involved in as well as their goals and plans for continuing their education upon graduating from high school.

The fourth recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award, Megan Curtis of Lake Region High School, Naples, was not in attendance to receive her award as she was on her way to France with her French Club during school vacation.

The guest speaker at the tea was Dr. Aaron Miller, a public policy scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., where is he writing a book about America and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Between 2003 and 2006 Dr. Miller served as president of Seeds of Peace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance coexistence and reconciliation.
