BRUNSWICK – A 22-year-old sailor man from Brunswick Naval Air Station was killed in a one-car crash on Durham Road on Sunday night, police said.

The man’s name is not being released until his family, who lives out of state, is notified. He died at the scene.

Two other occupants of the car – also stationed at BNAS – were treated for injuries at a local hospital and released.

All three were wearing seat belts, said John James, a spokesman for BNAS.

He said the three men were roommates who lived in Durham and served as members of a P-3 Orion squadron.

The man who died was the front-seat passenger, said Brunswick police Commander Rick Desjardins. He said the car landed on its side near the intersection of Durham and Hacker roads after hitting a utility pole and several trees. The vehicle left the road after cresting a steep hill just south of the intersection, he said. The hill has been the scene of fatal crashes in the past, Desjardins said.

Police are testing the blood of the driver and the deceased for alcohol content, he said.

The speed limit in that area is 35 mph., and a Brunswick police reconstruction team investigating the cause,
