LEWISTON – The city of Lewiston’s Recreation Department will host “Track Fundamentals” from May 7 to June 14. The six-week program will be held at the Franklin Pasture Complex – Lewiston High School Track.

Track and field will be introduced to youth in grades kindergarten through six. Groups will be divided by ages, and children will be assigned to a specific group for the six weeks. Instructors will teach technique and emphasize physical fitness. Events available will be long-jump, shot-put, high jump, sprints, racewalk, hurdles, distance running and relays.

The cost for residents (limited to 60 participants) is $35, to include a track shirt, and $45 for nonresidents, along with a shirt.

Practice will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. The director for “Track Fundamentals” will be Kevin Russell, former runner for the University of Maryland and a member of the Greater Boston Track Club.
