LEWISTON – Planet Cheer recently attended the Eastern Cheer and Dance Association National All-Star Cheering Competition in Hershey, Pa. It is the association’s largest all-star competition, with more than 140 teams representing more than 10 states.
The Planet Cheer Senior Level 2 team took home the title of national champions of their division and grand champions of their level, earning them a full paid bid to Final Destination in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6.
The Planet Cheer Junior Level 3 and Senior Level 4 teams scored second-place finishes, with the junior team missing first and program champions by less than 2 points. The second-place finishes earned the Senior Level 4 team a bid to Final Destination as well as the Junior Level 3, who had previously scored a full paid bid at a previous competition.
The Planet Cheer junior team was also presented a specialty award: Sharpest Uniform. Wayne Sargent, father of one of the junior cheerleaders, won the dad dance-off contest. Head tumble instructor Matt Hanley performed advanced tumble skills during the coach jump and tumble-off.
Planet Cheer has four teams who have earned bids to Final Destination. All Planet Cheer teams are coached by co-owners Tiffany LeBrun and Deneka Deletetsky and tumble coach Hanley.
All Planet Cheer teams will wrap up their season at the annual Friends and Family Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Lewiston High School. For more information, visit www.fortierfamilycheercenter.com.
