PORTLAND – Passing Lane, winners of Rock-Off 22, will be on hand to pass the torch to this year’s winners of Rock-Off 23 at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at McAuley Performing Arts Center.

A four-piece band representing Deering High School, Portland High School and Waynflete, the band will perform a set of its trademark blend of funk, rock, jazz fusion and alternative.

It was the band’s ability to switch musicians on several instruments each that factored into winning the judges’ votes.

Six bands are competing for this year’s title of Best Young Band in the State of Maine, and the top prize of $1,000. They are Better Than, Gray-New Gloucester High School; Capital, Waynflete and Cape Elizabeth high schools; Poor-John, Brunswick High School; Public Place, Hebron Academy and Waynflete; and The Project, Greely and Cape Elizabeth high schools. Crash The End from Mount Ararat High School was “saved” as this year’s MaineToday.com Wildcard band.

A total of 23 bands registered for the annual statewide competition presented by Reindeer Records.

The Mother’s Day show is open to all ages. Admission is $10. For tickets and info, contact Reindeer at 857-9002.
