Yankees fans booed Joe Torre during a pitching change in Sunday’s loss to the Angels. In their defense, Torre ranks only third in World Series won by a Yankee manager with four.

Well, you’re sure not the solution

The Reds optioned pitcher Kirk Saarloos to Triple-A Louisville one day after he failed to retire any of the seven batters he faced in Cincy’s 14-10 loss to Pittsburgh.

“I don’t feel like I’m the problem,” Saarloos said.

Saarloos was 0-4 with a 7.04 ERA before being demoted.

Vandy is dandy

Vanderbilt, with Deering High graduates Ryan Flaherty and Andrew Giobbi on the roster, was selected as the top seed in the NCAA Div. 1 baseball tournament. Flaherty, a shortstop, is batting .365, and Giobbi, a catcher, .311 for the Commodores.

FIFA has decided to ban all international soccer matches above 8,200 feet, citing a concern for players’ health. High-altitude teams also had an unfair home field advantage over their visiting low-altitude rivals. Being more used to the thin air, they’re able to roll around on the ground longer after a flop.
