Adoption meeting

RUMFORD – SMART Child and Family Services will hold an informal meeting for those interested in learning more about foster care and for current foster parents interested in learning the difference between regular and treatment level foster care at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Hotel Harris.

Questions on adoption will be answered. The Oxford, Franklin and Androscoggin county areas need foster homes for children unable to stay in their own home. Those interested in learning more about foster care are invited to attend this informational meeting in Unit 11 on the mezzanine level of the hotel, Hartford Street/Congress Street.

Society to meet

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Kay House on Pleasant Street.

Members are asked to note the date change of the meeting, as the society will host a community program, “Life on the Mountain” featuring Martin Engstrom, at 7 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the Station Community Center. Engstrom will share stories and slides of being the weatherman on top of Mount Washington for 38 years.

Meeting dinner

FRYEBURG – A town meeting dinner will be held at noon Saturday, June 23, at Fryeburg New Church, 12 Oxford St. Menu will include casseroles, salads, baked beans, brown bread, rolls, pies and beverages. Cost for adults is $7 and $4 for children under 12.

Yard sale

OXFORD – An indoor yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Oxford Grange, Route 26. There will be baked goods available.

Finnish service

PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church has announced that the annual Finnish language worship service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the church, 34 Buckfield Road.

The service, all done in the Finnish language, is a traditional mid-summer event done around St. John’s Day. The Rev. Henry Leino, retired Lutheran minister, will conduct the service, assisted by Sulo Niskanen. Miriam Leino will be the organist, playing the Finnish liturgy and the Finnish hymns. A fellowship hour will follow in the lower church, with refreshments being served. The public is invited.

Floats sought

HARRISON – “Farming Through the Ages” is the theme for the Harrison Old Home Day on Saturday, July 14. Residents are asked to decorate a trailer, bike, boat, tractor or any mode of transportation.

To register, they will need a description of their float and the group involved. Registration will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Depot Street.

The parade will start at noon. The parade will air on LRTV. Plaques will be awarded to the top floats.
