Mark Samson says it’s the work he did with his committee where he made the most impact this session, rather than in the bills he submitted.

A freshman member of the Business, Research and Economic Development Committee, he helped work with the Maine State Housing Authority to protect the Housing Opportunities for Maine Fund, and lobbied the Appropriations Committee for the housing authority’s interests in the bonds package.

A Democrat, Samson labels himself as a financial conservative, supporting no new taxes and responsible spending.

Both of his two bills passed. One required the State Tax Assessor’s Office to come up with a standardized form for property tax bills that includes an itemized list. The other one adjusted the original assessed value for Auburn’s tax increment financing district.

“I wanted to do my work in the hallways and in committee, which is what I did,” Samson said.
