PARIS – The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Western Maine Veterans’ Advisory Committee, will hold a barbecue to honor Myron Pierce at 5 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Paris.

Pierce is a decorated veteran of World War 11 and Korea, rising from the ranks from private to battalion commander. He was a teacher for 18 years in Oxford Hills and worked to establish the Paris veterans’ home.

Pierce served on the board of trustees for the Maine Veterans’ Homes, having been appointed by Gov. John McKernan and reappointed by Gov. Angus King.

Tickets for the event are available at the Rumford American Legion Hall or from Joe Cooney, chairman, WMVAC, 743-9494. The cost is $6.
