OXFORD – 4-H in Oxford County received funding this year through the National 4-H Council to work on two wellness and character education grants.
The first grant allowed middle and high school students to write their own stories, create murals and teach elementary students about respect and positive character traits.
The second grant included supporting the Oxford Hills Middle School Wellness Day and two educational days at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School focused on substance abuse prevention.
In addition, the grant assisted high school students in teaching character education to elementary students. This year the Oxford Hills Respect Team and Telstar Leadership Committee taught bullying prevention to more than 800 elementary students in kindergarten through grade six with the help of the grants.
