NEWRY – An afternoon crash sent a Sunday River lift mechanic to the hospital on Friday.

Alex Kaufman, spokesman for the Sunday River resort, said the mechanic lost control of an ATV he was using to access different lifts. He said the employee was returning to the maintenance garage when he lost control of the vehicle.

“I guess he was unconscious briefly,” Kaufman said.

The employee was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

Kaufman said he believed the mechanic’s injuries were minor.

Sunday River has a full-year staff of mechanics. Kauffman said some staff members use the ATVs to get around the resort. “They’re all given proper training,” he said.

Kaufman was unable to provide the mechanic’s name Friday afternoon.
