AUBURN – The Edward Little High School Class of 1957 held its 50-year reunion the weekend of Aug. 17. The weekend started with a barbecue on Friday at the Jerry Douglass home in Lisbon. During the barbecue, Douglass gave helicopter rides to three classmates, Virginia Cotter Fortier, Roland Berry and Richard Pulkkinen.
Saturday noon classmates gathered at Taber’s to continue reminiscing. Bruce Macomber gave a brief talk on the schools in Auburn and history of the Macomber Dairy on Minot Avenue.
Classmates met at Lost Valley on Saturday night, beginning with a social hour. There were poster boards, a memory table and history books of previous reunions made by Barb Sanderson Pelletier and a slide show presentation done by Jessica Grenier.
Each classmate was given a gift bag, decorated by Mia Pelletier-Therrien, that included an EL mug, a special 50’s CD donated by Monique Couture Doiron, a copy of a watercolor of ELHS donated by Wendy Pelletier Ganio and a golden diploma made by Cari, assistant to Douglass. A memory book, made by Barb Sanderson Pelletier, was also given to each classmate.
The classmates entered the dining room to the Edward Little High School March, which was played at graduation for the processional. Dinner was followed by a business meeting at which time there was a moment of silence for all the deceased and sick classmates.
Door prizes of a watercolor of Edward Little High School, with the statue by artist Wendy Pelletier Ganio, was won by Richard Demers; a quilt, signed by all classmates attending and made by Joan Morin, was won by Beverly Rich Haynes; an EL woven blanket, donated by Paul and Carmelita Ames, was won by Normand Bernier; a string of pearls was won by Anita Shaw Bernard; floral arrangements were won by Monique Couture Doiron, Clifford Sagner and Donna Field Richards. The 50/50 raffle was won by Ronald Harwood.
Linda Davis Gonya and Barb Sanderson Pelletier were elected co-chairmen for the next reunion, which is to be held at the Douglass home.
The meeting concluded with the singing of the school song directed by Robert Morin and accompanied on tape by Catherine Sanderson Hopkins, class of 1956. Dennis Sweetser gave a brief history of the composer of the school song, George Bower. He also gave a history of the Edward Little High School March composed by H. C. Hobbs.
The evening ended with socializing and dancing.
