Plummer wins tourney

PORTLAND – Mark Plummer became only the third player in history to win the Maine Amateur Trifecta Wednesday as he captured his first Maine State Golf Association Amateur Championship. He fired a 3-under par at Portland Country Club to win by 6 strokes. The tourney was shortened to 18 holes because of Tuesday’s rainout.

He won the Maine Juniors in 1969, following that up 4 years later with his first of his record number of 13 Amateur Championships in 1974. After turning 55 in April, he became eligible for the trifecta, which he added Wednesday, shooting a 69.
