PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, South Paris, invites all to worship at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 14.
The congregation will commemorate “World Food Day” and will look at hunger and what feeds people.
Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. Worship service will be followed by coffee, refreshments and fellowship.
Writers to meet
OXFORD – The Oxford Writers and Storytellers will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Oxford Community Center.
They read their writings and poetry, discuss techniques and swap sources.
The group is open to all ages, but is mostly young adult and up. Special events coming up the next three months include: Oct. 17, Halloween special, readings of scary or paranormal writings; Nov. 21, Thanksgiving special, readings related to autumn, harvest and Thanksgiving; and Dec. 19, holiday special, readings about Christmas, winter and the solstice.
The public is invited to participate at all of the events. Anyone who has a related story he would like to read is welcome.
Colpitts to talk
BUCKFIELD – Superintendent Briand Colpitts of the Buckfield-Sumner School System will speak about the consolidation of schools on Friday, Oct. 19, when the Oxford County Retired Educators meet at the Buckfield Community Church.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the short business meeting followed by lunch served by women of the church.
Fundraisers for the scholarship fund will be an apple pie sale and a 50/50 calendar raffle.
The program will follow the lunch.
The phone chain will be used for members, but any newly retired aide or teacher, school lunch helper, library or other school employee recently retired who wants to join the association may phone 743-7677 to get reservations for the dinner and meeting before Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Six meetings are held throughout the county every year.
Bake, tag sale
NORWAY – An indoor bake and tag sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Town and Country Mobile Home Village Recreation Hall.
Seniors meet
WEST PARIS – The West Paris Senior Citizens met at Michael’s Restaurant on Route 26 in Norway on Oct. 2 for a luncheon and get-together.
The next meeting and luncheon will be on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Route 219 home of Fred and Beryl Oja.
This will be the Thanksgiving Day meal and program, also election of officers for 2008.
Grange fair
WEST PARIS – West Paris Grange 298 will hold its annual fall food, craft and Christmas fair from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at its hall, 4 Church St.
Luncheon, to be sold at noon, will consist of corn chowder, hot dogs, sandwiches, pie, coffee and punch.
The time was changed from 9 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to accommodate early buyers.
