LISBON – Classes starting in late October and in November still have openings at Lisbon Adult Education.

“Introduction to PowerPoint” will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The class will meet for from 6 to 8 p.m. for six weeks.

Advocates for Children’s “Parenting 101 Good Discipline” will meet on Thursday, Nov. 1, and “Parenting 201 Keeping Peace at Home” will meet on Thursday, Nov. 15. Both classes be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and are recommended for parents of children ages 4 to 12.

Two financial workshops will be offered in late October. “All-Weather Strategies for Stock Investing” will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and “Investing in Bonds for Income and Diversification” will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Both will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are free. Advance registration by phone is required.

“Decorative Painting,” also know as tole painting, classes will be offered, and examples of the projects may be viewed in the Adult Education office in Lisbon High School. A heart plaque with snowmen class will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7. A folk art angel class will start Monday, Nov. 19, and a gingerbread girl with Christmas tree class will begin Wednesday, Dec. 5. All classes will meet for two weeks from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Materials will be provided in a kit and no experience is necessary.

In a holiday bucket sewing class students will make a simple fabric container, which can be used for decoration or as a gift container. The class is beginner-friendly and will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

For quilters a “Snippets” class will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13. Students will learn how to make a wall quilt using small pieces of fabric. The class does not require a sewing machine and is beginner friendly.

A two-week open sewing clinic will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 20. This is an opportunity to get help in finishing projects started in quilting classes or help with home projects.

Holiday-themed children’s craft classes will be offered in November and December. The classes are intended for children ages 4 through 12. A Thanksgiving Day craft class will meet on Monday, Nov. 5, where participants will make a tree of thanks and will weave leaf mats for the holiday dinner table. A surprise project is also included.

On Monday, Dec. 10, a “Christmas is Coming” craft class will give children a chance to make presents for their families, including crafted gingerbread houses and jewelry and other holiday crafts. Cocoa and cookies will be served. Preregistration is required for these events which meet from 5 to 6 p.m.

Readers everywhere are invited to join Readers Anonymous, a book club for the incurable reader. The book club meets at Lisbon High School on the fourth Thursday of the month. The selection for Thursday, Oct. 25, is “Life on the Other Side” by Sylvia Browne. The selection for Nov. 29 is “The Glass House” by Jeannette Walls, and the Dec. 20 selection is “Cold Sassy Tree” by Olive Brown. The club meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to all free.
