Shayna Malyata isn’t just an eighth grade English teacher. She is someone who cares about others and doesn’t forget her past.

Mrs. Malyata used to live in Namibia, Africa. She lived there for 4 years. While there she was a high school teacher, and she also met her husband. When she came back to the U.S., she was and is still a teacher.

This past summer, Mrs. Malyata went back to Namibia. She went back to visit her students, and start a project called, “Kids with Cameras.”

For the project, Mrs. Malyata took some old, donated cameras and gave them to her students. The students then took pictures of their lives; dancing, fishing, playing, etc.

With the pictures, Mrs. Malyata is going to make an online exhibit. She is going to make a web site so that people can look at the pictures.

If things go really well, Mrs. Malyata is going to host a photo exhibit, and even sell some of the pictures. The money from the pictures is going to go to the kids in Africa to help them pay their school fees.
