LEWISTON – Residents can order holiday pastries through Dial a Greek Pastry until Tuesday, Nov. 13. To place an order, call 946-7372, 784-7107 or 784-0795. The pastries will include:
Baklava: Buttered filo dough layered with a filling of spices and chopped walnuts. While warm, the pastry is smothered with a honey syrup and cut into triangles; $1.50 each.
Finikia: The honeyed cake-type cookies are baked with spices. They are dipped in honey syrup and sprinkled with crushed nuts; $1 each.
Flogeres: The nut rolls are made with walnuts, wrapped filo dough and dipped in honey syrup with a chocolate garnish; $1.25 each.
Kourambiedes: Cookies are made with unsalted butter and baked, then blanketed with powdered sugar; $1 each.
Kataifi: The dessert is made with shredded filo dough, filled with spices and chopped walnuts and honey syrup is poured on top; $1.50 each.
Tiropitas: The cheese triangles are made with feta cheese and other white cheeses and eggs and wrapped with strips of buttered filo dough. They have been quickly frozen. When ready to serve, bake and present warm; tray of eight, $5.
Gift box: A box of assorted pastries, packaged in a holiday box suitable for a gift. A box will contain four Baklava, three Kourambiedes, two Finikia, two Flogeres and a Kataifi; each box, $15.
People can pick up their order at the Greek Orthodox Church, 155 Hogan Road, between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
