Fortier Chapter

LEWISTON – The Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter 52, Association Canado-Americaine, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the Senior Citizens Room, Multi-Purpose Center.

Scrapbook Day

LEWISTON – Scrapbook Day, to benefit the Vineyard Christian School, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the school, 9 Foss Road.

There will be a $20 registration fee before Saturday, Nov. 3; $30 after that. The first 20 people to register will be entered into early bird drawings.

Lunch and snacks will be provided and there will be door prizes, gifts, contests, make-and-takes, raffles and new products. A beginner class will be taught at 9 a.m.

Library talk

AUBURN – “The Birds of Winter” will be presented at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room, Auburn Public Library.

Doug Beck, Auburn Recreation Department superintendent and an avid bird watcher, will talk about common birds that winter in Maine. He will touch upon courtship rituals, bird song, feeding habits and the types of shelter birds need to thrive during Maine’s cold and unpredictable winters.

The program is for adults of all ages, but teens and seniors are especially welcome to the Teenior Program.

NEW GLOUCESTER – Recently transcribed dusty old letters will tell the tale of Neal Stinchfield, who served in the Civil War from New Gloucester in 1863-64. Tom Blake, Neal’s great-great-great-great-nephew, will do the presentation at the Thursday, Nov. 15, meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. A business meeting will follow.

Giving back

WINTHROP – At the CODA Chorus 40th anniversary choral festival on Oct. 27, Oak Hill High School was presented a $200 scholarship to be used in furthering a student’s music education. A free will offering was also taken, and $500 will be presented to the Winthrop Food Bank and Soup Kitchen.
