Canine classes

AUBURN – Great Falls Dog Obedience Club is starting another six-week dog obedience class Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Auburn. Beginners will be at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Dogs must be at least 3 1/2 months old. To register and for more information, call the club’s trainer, Diane Harrington, at 784-7578.

Kennel club

SABATTUS – The Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, will feature “An Insight into Agility” by Barbara Corriveau at the Sabattus Town Hall. Corriveau has been involved with this phase of competition.

Also on the agenda will be nomination of officers for 2008 and the holding of a championship AKC dog show.

Keene to talk

AUBURN – Hugh Keene of Auburn will be the speaker at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at a meeting of the Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St.

Keene coached the drama club at Edward Little High School for 25 years, directing more than 60 dramas and musicals. In general, his talk will be about the Senior College, a division of the University of Southern Maine.

He also taught at Reader’s Theatre and, through two demonstrations with students from that course, he will show how it differed from the usual reader’s theater.

All monthly meetings of the WLU are open to the public. Refreshments are served.

DAR program

BOWDOIN – Regent Sheila Desgrosseilliers has announced that the Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at the home of Corley Anne Byras at 1:30 p.m. Saturday Nov. 10. Following the business meeting, a historical program on “The Golden Age of Quackery” will be presented.

OES meeting

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Grange/Masonic Hall on Centre Road.

Members will celebrate “Jokes and Trivia” and “Thanksgiving.” Special guest will be Thelda Dobbins, a 75-year member. The worthy grand matron, worthy grand patron and grand secretary have been invited.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 30 were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; second, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; third, Martine Begert and David Lock; fourth, Flo Ludwin and Shirley West; first in B, Roger Briggs and Roger Labbe.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Oct. 31 were: first, Les Buzzell and John Hackett; second, Patricia and Mike Quinn; third, Paul Barber and Luke Merry; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; first in B, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Games are played every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A partner is always guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games.
