HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) – A family of six was treated for possible carbon monoxide poisoning in Holyoke during the weekend.

Deputy Fire Chief W. Tim Nelson said the mother, who is seven months pregnant, was being treated overnight as a precaution.

Nelson said all other members of the family were released after being examined at a local hospital. The family includes three small children, as well as a grandparent. The eight-unit Maple Street apartment building reportedly did not have carbon monoxide detectors.

Only the one apartment, however, had leaks for the odorless gas.

Nelson says some members of the family showed signs of CO poisoning, including headaches. He says the mother was “a bit lethargic.”

The landlord plans to put up the family in a hotel while the appliances are replaced.

The state has a carbon monoxide detector law, but Nelson said larger multifamily units were granted extensions, and aren’t required to install detectors until the end of this year.
