This letter is in response to the Nov. 14 letter by Joel Denison, “Wartime 101.”

Denison should be embarrassed for himself. And, as well, the Sun Journal for its decision to print such a letter.

It baffles me that such a horrifyingly xenophobic letter should ever make it to print, and sadly, as well, the Internet.

How does such a letter add to the conversation of the issue of illegal immigration? How does that letter contribute to the difficult and complex issues of war? More importantly, how does the Sun Journal editorial board explain itself as a voice for the community by providing a forum for mindless hate such as what that letter contained?

Denison’s letter reminds me of the mindless and hateful rhetoric used to incite the populace into complicity with Nazis in their maniacal plan of genocide during World War II – a practice that occurs to this day.

What concerns me even more is the forum the Sun Journal provided by printing such insanity.

Although Denison’s letter makes him look more like a hateful and mindless fool, I feel it’s also a reflection of the Sun Journal and their editorial decision-making process. Please remember that with the complicity of print media, Nazi Germany was able to successfully commit some of the most horrifying crimes humanity has even known.

Please, Sun Journal, in the future, don’t be the fuel that adds to such a flame.

Joseph Keelan, Auburn
