AUBURN – After being delayed by last weekend’s stormy weather, Jamie and Karen Loggins’ Christmas light and sound show – what some call the best holiday display this side of Disney – made its premiere Friday night.

The show was held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. Tonight it’s scheduled to begin at 5:30.

In the last week numerous vehicles have driven by the Loggins house on Vista Drive hoping to see the show. Jamie Loggins previously had hoped to begin the show Dec. 2, if the weather cooperated.

It didn’t.

The weather “hurt,” and slowed the finishing touches, Loggins said. Weekends is when he gets most of the work done, since during the week he’s a Central Maine Medical Center surgeon.

“Saturday was a big day for us,” Loggins said Friday. “We had a lot of work to do on the roof. We were up there, but the winds were 40 to 50 miles per hour. And it was bitter cold with that wind.”

Then the snow came.

As Loggins tried to troubleshoot during the week, hundreds of his power cords were buried under the snow. “It’s hard to see things,” he said.

On Thursday night, Loggins and helpers were out there correcting glitches. One minute Vista Drive was void of all traffic. As soon as he turned the lights on to test them, “the road was full,” he said. “It was amazing. I’m not putting out any beacon, but somehow people are finding out.”

When the lights are on, Auburn police will direct traffic on Park Avenue. Those going to see the lights need to be patient and follow police traffic orders. Last year the show had to be taken down a few days because of some Grinch-like drivers.

From now until New Year’s Eve, the show is planned for 5:30 to 8 p.m. weekdays, and 5:30 to 10 p.m. weekends. For more information, check out www.auburnlights.com.
