BANGOR (AP) – A former Bangor mayor faces charges that he allegedly forged the city manager’s name on a $9,500 invoice.

Prosecutors say Richard Greene, who is still on the City Council, submitted three invoices to the city last month for photographic services.

When Greene tried to collect, the Bangor finance director asked for a signed agreement. That’s when he allegedly forged City Manager Ed Barrett’s signature on a usage agreement and submitted it for payment.

According to court documents, Greene’s wife told investigators that her husband was broke and “desperate for money.”
