AUBURN – Dave Gonyea of Central Maine Community College has been named “Coach of the Year” by the Yankee Small College Conference.

Gonyea, who led the CMCC men’s basketball team to the conference final this past season, serves as the Director of Athletics, Housing and Residential Life at the College.

The YSCC is a division II conference in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The conference consists of two and four years schools from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Established in June, 2001, the USCAA was incorporated to provide an opportunity for smaller college members to compete with schools of similar size and athletic programming.

Gonyea, a native of Windham, has led the men’s basketball team at CMCC for the past 14 years. Under his leadership, the team has won eight state titles, two regional crowns, and one national championship. In addition to his many responsibilities at CMCC, Gonyea also serves as President of the USCAA Board of Directors.

In addition to men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, and volleyball, CMCC also offers baseball, softball, and coed golf. Anyone interested in the athletic programs at CMCC is encouraged to contact Gonyea at 755-5251 or at dgonyea@cmcc.edu. More information is also available online at www.cmcc.edu/athletics.
