POLAND – The Poland Regional High School Youth Baseball/Softball clinics continue throughout March. The Poland coaching staff welcomes players in grades 3-8 from all surrounding communities to attend.

This Sunday, March 2, spring training sessions will take place. Each session consists of baseball/softball instruction, skills, and drills on the basic fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and throwing mechanics. Please be on time (10 minutes early) for your scheduled session. The cost is $20 per session or $40 for the group of three March sessions. Proceeds are non-refundable and benefit fundraising efforts for PRHS baseball and softball.

Other clinic dates are Sunday, March 9 and Saturday, March 15. Session times are 1 to 2:45 p.m. for grades 3 and 4, 3 to 4:45 p.m. for grades 5 and 6, and 5 to 6:45 p.m. for grades 7 and 8. Bates public skates

LEWISTON – The Bates College women’s ice hockey team is holding public skate sessions at Underhill Arena this month to raise funds for a trip to the Division II ACHA National tournament March 6-9 in Chicago.

The first skate is today from 5 to 7 p.m. After the team’s return from the nationals, there will a daily skate each evening from March 10-14, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for children, and free for kids under five.

Travel hoop team tryouts

AUBURN – Players interested in playing for a state-wide 17-and-under boys’ team and U-16 boys’ teams are invited to attend the MBR tryouts Sunday, March 2, at Central Maine Community College. Time is 1 to 4 p.m.

Coach Carl Parker will have both teams practice together and coach both through practices. Top players who are currently in their freshman, sophomore or junior year are invited to attend. Contact Parker with any questions at 290-3304 or by e-mail at carlparker@leeacademy.org.

Also, any current freshman girls interested in playing on a state-wide team are invited to meet at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
